The Silent Patient - Alex Michaelides

Sunday, 27 January 2019

If you are looking for the best thriller to read this year, you’ve found it! It’s a bold statement, especially as I am saying it in January, but I am confident that I will struggle to find any that come close. And it’s Alex Michaelides’ debut, I can’t wait to see what else he has up his sleeve for the future!

Alicia Berenson writes a diary as a release, an outlet - and to prove to her beloved husband that everything is fine. She can't bear the thought of worrying Gabriel, or causing him pain.
Until, late one evening, Alicia shoots Gabriel five times and then never speaks another word.

Forensic psychotherapist Theo Faber is convinced he can successfully treat Alicia, where all others have failed. Obsessed with investigating her crime, his discoveries suggest Alicia's silence goes far deeper than he first thought.
And if she speaks, would he want to hear the truth?

Flicking between journal entries from a now mute Alicia and following Theo’s investigations into why, if and how Alicia murdered her husband, the storyline is full of twists and surprises. A page turner in its finest, I genuinely couldn’t take my mind off it when I wasn’t reading and found it so difficult to put down once I had picked it back up. It starts off a little slow but it doesn’t take long to pick up pace and run with it.

Every new character has you questioning their motives and you never see the twists coming until the last second. I thought I had guessed the ending about 5 times only for another twist to come and change my mind, and I still didn’t guess the ending.

The Silent Patient is released on February the 7th in Hardback, Audio and Ebook formats and you can preorder it now!
