Life Update: New Studio

Thursday, 10 August 2017

My last life update post was back in March. Things had been stressful at the start of the year and I had needed a break to get my life back on track and settled into a new routine. This life update seems to be exactly the same so this is your warning, there is a ramble ahead.

Over the last few weeks I have been pulling my hair out, not literally, with stress over my job. As most of you already know I am self employed and run my own photography studio. I rent my premises but my lease on my first studio comes to an end this month. When I entered into renegotiation talks with my landlord I was quietly confident that being in the area I am in and the current financial climate he would just be happy to plod along as we are. I was already paying a lot more than everyone else in the area so didn't think my contract would change that much. However it did, and with no room for a compromise I have had to uproot my business and move it to a new area. I was gutted and no matter how much everyone has tried to make light of the situation, I loved my studio and where it was and I was all but ready to pack it all in because I couldn't see another way around it. Luckily another property came up just in time and the last 2 weeks have been spent painting, decorating and trying to condense the massive amount of props and equipment I have accumulated over the last 3 years into a much smaller space. It is very different to my first studio but I am actually starting to like it. The more of my stamp I put on it, the more I can see it becoming home for me (well work, but you know what I mean).

As for my actual home, with all that has been going on with the studio and my dad having to go work on an emergency job, no work has been done on the new house in well over a month. I have everything crossed to be moved in by Christmas but I said that last year so I'm not pinning much hope on it.

We have a few weekends away planned over the next few weeks for Nick's band to play at some festivals and just nice breaks to try and destress. I am probably most excited for the VW shows we are planning on going to though. I can't wait to get stuck in on the restoration of my Camper, we've made a good start this week and it's been great getting to vlog again. I can't tell you how happy I was to hear the engine running for the first time in 5 years. It will amazing to have it back on the road again ready for next summer to go road tripping.
