Podcasts I'm Listening To

Thursday, 23 March 2017

I am really into podcasts at the moment. I spend a lot of time on my own editing  photos in the studio and the quiet can sometimes really bug me. Having something to listen to that doesn't need me to look at is perfect and it makes a change from music.

I was recommended this by a friend who had listened to the 1st season. I loved it straight away,  it is a little like Making A Murderer but in Podcast form, following a teenage boy who was charged for the murder of his ex girlfriend. The series goes in depth following the case and trying to work out if he is as innocent as he says. I was gripped and finished the 1st season in a few days. The 2nd season wasn't as great as the 1st, but I only think this because the case followed a guy that I felt was a bit sketchy, I didn't take to him the same way as the original one and I got a little bored of his random stories. The reporting was still really engaging and I can't wait for the new season and hopefully some updates on the guy from the 1st season.

This one is a new podcast for me. I have only listened to a few episodes so far but it is really interesting. Its hosted by an australian guy and he looks over and investigates true crime cases from around the world. I love a good true crime documentary and love that there is now a new trend in true crime podcasts.

I used to listen to Russell Brand's Radio 2 podcast back in the day before it all went bottoms up and he ended up being sacked. I am a huge Russell Brand fan and love that he is now helping to encourage young people to engage with politics and use their voice to help. His comedy is hilarious but I love that he now seems to have taken a massive U turn and his more grounded and spiritual self is using his platform to bring knowledge and understanding to a group of people that struggle to find purpose and a voice, whilst still bringing comedic qualities to otherwise very serious subjects. This podcast has only just started but I can't wait to see where he goes with it.

Again, a very new one to me, but I have been told by quite a few people recently that mindfulness has really worked for them in their day to day lives. Virgin has partnered up with Penguin to bring authors together to talk about how they have used mindfulness and other techniques to learn about themselves and make positive changes that increase happiness and health. Mental health is a big talking point at the moment in the media and I am glad the taboo has started to lift. It's really interesting to listen to these peoples stories and I straight away found myself nodding along with what they were saying.

Have you got any podcast recommendations at the moment?

  2. I love a good podcast, there really is something for absolutely everyone. The first season of Serial is really fascinating, Casefile seems a bit similar so I'll give it a whirl. Someone recently recommended All Killa No Filla to me. It's two women in Manchester talking all things serial killers. It's random and nowhere near as horrific as it sounds, I'm a bit hooked.
