25 Things I've Learned In 25 Years

Monday, 6 February 2017

I turned 25 yesterday and was rather depressed about being eligible to join the 'overs' category if I ever decided to audition for the X Factor. When you are a kid 25 sounds ancient and after not really thinking about it before, it suddenly dawned on me that I would be turning a quarter of a century old. It also got me to thinking about what I had learned in my wise old age...

  1. The older I get the harder it is to learn new things, but it doesn't stop me trying. Even the stupid things like trampolining and snowboarding.
  2. Other people's lives are never as good as they plaster all over social media, and if their personal lives are constantly in your face, it's probably because they are not very happy at all and are over compensating.
  3. A good book and a cup of coffee can sort a lot of problems.
  4. The harder you work towards something, the more you appreciate it when you get it.
  5. You can't please everyone.
  6. I will never achieve the ultimate goal of playing Elphaba in Wicked, mainly due to my inability to sing anything in tune. I realise this and you telling me I can't sing won't stop me singing all 4 parts of Defying Gravity by myself at the same time.
  7. I am not a cat or a dog person I am a pug person.
  8. Money isn't the be all and end all.
  9. But treating yourself every now and again works wonders.
  10. Tyler Oakley saying 'You do you and I'll do me' changed my perspective on a lot of things. It is my favourite saying.
  11. The common theme in (nearly) every good day is coffee.
  12. Aim for the stars and even if you fail, you will land on the moon.
  13. There will always be people in the world that will want to take you for granted and take advantage of your kindness. Don't let them.
  14. Concentrate on making yourself happy and everything else will fall into place.
  15. Worrying gets you nowhere.
  16. Spending time with people you genuinely care about is priceless.
  17. Starting your own business is HARD. Keeping it running is harder.
  18. There will always be someone better off than you. But you will always be better off than someone else, if you can, help them.
  19. Eating a family size jar of Nutella by yourself with a spoon is ok, everyone does it. I think.
  20. Setting goals and achieving them is an amazing feeling.
  21. Being an 'adult' isn't all bad.
  22. Taking a break and time for yourself is a necessity, don't feel bad about it.
  23. People who genuinely want to be in your life, will be. Don't waste time on part time and fake friends.
  24. Don't let anyone tell you that you are too young/old/fat/thin to do something. I was told I wouldn't be able to open my business, I shouldn't get married, I'd never be able to buy a house yet and numerous other things based on my age and gender. And guess what, they were all wrong. Work hard enough and anything is achievable regardless of your age gender or sexual orientation.
  25. 25 isn't THAT old....
Have you got any birthday's or anniversaries you are dreading?
