Katjes Magic Candy Factory - Cardiff

Saturday, 3 December 2016

Katjes Magic Candy Factory, the first 3D printed candy store, opens its newest counter this weekend in Saint Davids 2 Arcade, Cardiff.  I got invited down to try out the 3D candy printers and see how it all works.

I was expecting the Magic Candy Factory to look quite industrial but it was the exact opposite. All the printers are housed in wooden boxes and there is a really cool forest vibe going on with the decoration. When I first arrived the staff were so lovely and couldn't wait to tell me all about their amazing products.

The sweets are made of all natural ingredients, are completely Vegan and free from allergens, which is amazing in itself but when you taste them it really could be magic! They don't only sell the 'make your own' candy, there is also ready made sweets that you can buy tubs of. My personal favourite was the pink lemonade sweets, they were so good I went back again for a few more.

The machines were awesome, they had windows all the way around so that you can see your design being made. There are iPads next to the machines where you can design your own sweet or choose from the pre existing designs. You can even get a selfie printed! After you have chosen your design, and flavour and it has been printed, you can then choose from 3 magic final touches - glitter, fizzy or sour.

I was really impressed with Magic Candy Factory, I went to the event with the idea of 3D candy being quite gimmicky in the back of my mind, but you can create something for any occasion. Your mind really is the only limit to what you can make!

What 3D candy would you make?
