Tips On Keeping Your Dog Cool This Summer

Wednesday, 20 July 2016

The weather has been great this week and even though my pasty skin burns really easily, I've been trying to get out in it as much as possible. Pugsey on the other hand is struggling. He hates the warm weather and is really lethargic. We've been trying lots of different ways of keeping him cool, so I thought I would share some of his favourites that you can try with your own fur babies.

Fruit In Ice - Pugsey loves apple and he loves licking ice so this one was a bit of a no brainer. However the block in the photo was a little too big for him so I would suggest trying smaller trays. We popped this is a shaded area out the garden and he was out there for ages. It meant that he stayed in the shade, he loves to sunbathe even though he gets too warm, and he was lovely and cool so had lots of energy back.

Lot Of Ice - This is obviously not his drink but I do put a few ice cubes in his water every time I give him fresh so that it stays lovely and cold. He loves chasing cubes around the kitchen when I drop them too!

Plenty Of Rest - We have just bought Pugsey a cooling mat but before that we just made sure there was space in the house where the windows were open for breeze and that he had a cool spot to sleep in. It seems obvious but they get a lot warmer than people so even if it feels ok to us, it is probably still a little warm for them so try and keep the room cold if possible.

What are your tips for keeping your pets cool?
