The Photography Show 2016

Wednesday, 23 March 2016

This week I got the chance to attend The Photography Show in Birmingham NEC. It's somewhere I've wanted to go for such a long time and I was super excited when my tickets arrived a few months ago. As a lot of you know I run my own photography studio as my main job so this was technically for work, but I was like a huge geek the whole day.

When I first got in to the show the photographer for Game of Thrones, Helen Sloan, was doing a talk on the Nikon stage. I loved seeing lots of behind the scenes imagery and hearing all the ins and out of what her job entails. I was really eager to hear her answer to the most predictable question of the talk 'is Jon Snow dead' but couldn't wait around for someone to ask it as I had so much more I wanted to see.

There were hundreds of stalls, from cameras and equipment to props and albums. There really was something for every photography nerd. I bought a few small props for newborn sessions that I have coming up over the next few weeks but didn't go splashing big bucks on new lenses even though it took every ounce of strength for me not to.

The best part of the day was most definitely Lara Jade's workshop on the Canon Stage. If anyone has ever read any of my photography posts you will more than likely know that Lara Jade is my all time favourite photographer. She was the main inspiration behind my final year project at university and there has never been an editorial of hers that I have disliked. As soon as I realised she was doing a talk I ran to the stage to try and get a seat.

As you can see there was no hope of my short little 5"2 self seeing anything from where I was stood although I did manage to wiggle a little closer there was no hope of me getting anywhere near. I heard a bit of the workshop and managed to see a little too but when the host of the stage came on the mic to say she would be meeting people at another Canon location I took the opportunity of being at the back to get there first.

I didn't say an awful lot as I was way too excited that I was in the same room as her, but she was so lovely and let me take a photo with her which made my day. I can't wait to go back next year!

Did you go to The Photography Show?
