Thorpe Park - Review

Friday, 31 July 2015

Last week we went to Thorpe Park as part of our anniversary celebrations. We had been before but it had been years so we were all really excited. We booked our tickets in advance and picked them up at the gates which was super easy and one less thing to worry about when we were packing our stuff for the trip.

When we got into the park all of the queue times were under 20 minutes and stayed like that pretty much all day. The longest we queued was 30 minutes which was nothing to the 4 hour waits the last time we visited. As soon as we got there we also purchased a few refillable drinks cups and a photo pass. It was £5 for the drink and £30 for the photo pass but we shared both between the 6 of us, obviously we bought more than one cup, but it meant we didn't have to dig around for cash after every ride. I think if you are in a group, both are well worth the money as we had 30 photos all together with our photo pass and every time we passed a refill station, another drink.

My favourite ride was probably The Swarm but I only got to go on there once. I really enjoyed the I'm A Celeb bushtucker trials too, even if they didn't have real creepy crawlies it was still a good laugh. All in all our day was great!

The only thing that did annoy us a little was come 5 o'clock the bigger rides, with the longest queues, all seemed to miraculously start having technical difficulties and being shut down. This happened the last time we were there too and I don't think it was a coincidence. The refill stations for the drinks also closed quite early, leaving one open that we could find and it had a ridiculously long queue.

Making Lemon and Chocolate Cheesecake

Monday, 27 July 2015

I had a full weekend of work this week and I really wasn't looking forward to not having a day off. So Saturday after work I decided to pop to Asda and pick up a few ingredients to make a cheesecake. I have made a cake in such a long time I was really looking forward to it.

When 3 o'clock rolled around Sunday I was so glad to get home and to my cheesecake setting in the fridge. One of my friends called in and we had a lovely cuppa and a slice each (we may have had seconds). I was really please with my first attempt at making cheesecake and was really surprised at how easy it was, especially after I tweaked the recipe to suit my taste.

Just incase you would like to have a go yourself, here is the recipe

200g crushed chocolate biscuits (or any biscuit you prefer, I used double chocolate digestives)
100g unsalted butter, melted
500g mascarpone
325g lemon curd (with a little bit extra to swirl into the top)
Juice of 1 small lemon

Mix the butter and crushed biscuits in a bowl and then press into the bottom of the tin.

Beat the mascarpone, lemon curd and lemon juice in a bowl until smooth.

Spoon on to the biscuit base and level the top. Use some of the left over lemon curd to swirl into the top.

Leave in the fridge for at least 4 hours to firm up, I left mine over night to make sure it was completely set.

Movies I Have Loved

Sunday, 26 July 2015

Today I thought I would put together a post on the movies that I have really enjoyed watching so far this summer. I know in the summer your supposed to be out enjoying the sunshine but many of our summer days so far have been filled with rain showers.

The first film that I have really enjoyed watching is 'The Duff', these kind of films are my favourite, you know, the teen chick flick kind of film, I'm a sucker for these. The film is about a teenage girl called Bianca, her world is torn apart when she finds out that most of the school has labelled her as 'The DUFF' (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) in her group of friends. Bianca decides that she wants to change all that and asks Wesley, the school jock and also Bianca's childhood friend to help her charm her crush Toby.  Mae Whitman who plays Bianca is absolutely hysterical and had me laughing throughout the film.  If you love films like Mean Girls, you will love this.

The next film is 'Insurgent'. This film is the second film in the 'Divergent' trilogy. This film shows Tris and Four on the run from Jeanine and the rest of the Erudites. Tris and Four begin searching for allies and answers on what Tris' family sacrificed their lives for and why the Erudites are doing everything in their power to stop them. Tris and Four face many challenges throughout this film and uncover many secrets on their future and what it holds.  I thoroughly enjoyed this film, it was action packed from start to finish. I am a huge fan of Divergent so I knew I would love the second part of the series.

The last film is 'Love Rosie', I had never really heard anything about this film but decided to give it a go and I was so impressed at how good it was.  Rosie and Alex have been best friends since they were five years old but now as they are approaching university they are forced to go their separate ways. They remain friends but throughout the film Rosie is constantly thinking whether they were meant to be more than just good friends. However bad luck, misunderstandings and missed opportunities face both Rosie and Alex, will they finally give up their friendship to be together?
This film is now probably one of my favourite films, I cried and laughed as it really takes you through all the emotions. It's such a feel good film and I fell in love with story, if your looking for an amazing romantic film, this is the one for you.

OOTD - Road Trip Comfort

Friday, 24 July 2015

I never know what to wear when we are travelling somewhere. It's either really warm or freezing cold  and you know you're going to be stuck in the car for hours so comfort is key. I decided to wear a jump suit to travel this week which turned out to be the perfect outfit. It was really comfy and I also didn't mind stopping off and getting food as I didn't look too casual. Both the jump suit and the sandals are from Primark and the whole outfit only cost £23!

What is your perfect travel outfit?

Anniversary Trip

Thursday, 23 July 2015

This Wednesday was my 2 year wedding anniversary so we booked to go away for a few days with a group of our friends. We stayed in the Radisson Blu Edwardian, which was in Heathrow.

This was the main entrance, it was a beautiful hotel. There is a spa, a few restaurants and shops inside and everything looked like it could have been used to film The Great Gatsby.

After checking in, we all headed to our rooms to dump our stuff and get changed ready for the evenings events. Stacey kindly brought some prosecco and we opened our anniversary gifts and cards because we knew we wouldn't have time to do them the morning after.

Then it was on to our evening meal (after lift selfies). We ate at Steak and Lobster which was inside our hotel. The food was beautiful and we all enjoyed eating Lobster for the first time.

Nick bought me this Ted Baker satchel that I had been lusting over for ages. It was a complete surprise and I love it! I was gutted that I couldn't fit everything I needed for the next day into it though so I couldn't use it straight away.

And then it was on to Thorpe Park. We had a great time and I am wrecked now. But there will be more posts and vlogs to come, especially on Thorpe Park!

What's In My Everyday Bag

Friday, 17 July 2015

I am always complaining wherever we go that my bag is too heavy and that next time I buy a new bag, it will be tiny so I can only fit the essentials. Of course this never happens and after a few days, I'm back to full on Mary Poppins mode with everything buy the kitchen sink in my bag.

This bag is only a week old, bargain for Tesco, so as of yet it is still quite light. There are a few things that went straight in when I bought it though as I don't leave the house without them.

Purse and phone, this is an obvious one but I love my Ted Baker purse that my sister gave me and my phone case which is from Tesco too, I should really start going to other shops.

My vlogging camera, I take this everywhere even though I haven't  uploaded in quite a while. I have started vlogging again this week though and have decided to do weekly round up vlogs. So watch this space!

Hand cream, Lancomé perfume and nail varnish remover. My just incase beauty pile. And then finally my notebook and stash of pens. I don't go anywhere without a pen and notebook. It's not the same writing something down on your phone and as you can probably tell this notebook is well loved, with post it notes and extra bits of paper shoved in, it's very nearly full.

What are your everyday bag essentials?

Five Things I Want To Do This Summer

Wednesday, 15 July 2015

1. Plan Fun Days Out
I love planning days out, especially in the summer. This summer I really want to take a few trips, whether it's to a beach or to another town, this is something that I love to do every summer.

2.  Have a Picnic
I have never actually been on a picnic before. There is a beautiful park near where I live that would make the perfect spot for a picnic.

3.  Reinvent my Wardrobe
My wardrobe is currently full of clothes that I haven't worn in a while. I really want to take a shopping trip and completely reinvent my wardrobe with summer pieces. I've seen so many things on Missguided that I have fallen in love with for summer.

4.  Eat Healthier
I'm a really fussy eater and I only really stick to foods that I know, which is usually junk food. This summer I really want to try new foods that are healthy as I feel that this make me feel a lot better in myself.

5. Read Two Books a Month
I've recently finished university, which means no more sleepless nights, staying up to finish coursework and no more deadlines. I haven't had the chance to read any books since the start of this year and reading is something that I thoroughly enjoy. This summer I plan to read at least two books a month.

What have you got planned for this summer?

Festival Wishlist

Friday, 10 July 2015

I cannot wait to go to more festivals this summer with my next one only being a week or two away. I have been loving all of the highstreet festival fashion this year so I thought I would give you a peek at a few of the things I've had my eye on.

Oklahoma - Musical Review

Thursday, 9 July 2015

Today I thought I would do another musical review. As I mentioned before, I love musicals and last night myself and my mother went to see 'Oklahoma' in Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff. I bought a ticket as a present for my mother on Mother's Day, as she loves this musical. Our seats in the theatre were one row from the front, which was amazing.

The musical 'Oklahoma' is an old and classic musical set in the western times. The musical tells the story of two pairs of lovers, Curly, a cowboy and Laurey, a farm girl, who lives on the farm with her Aunt Eller (Belinda Lang). Curly and Laurey both find it difficult trying to express how they feel about each other, as they are both very stubborn. Throughout the story, Judd (Nic Greenshields), the hired hand at Aunt Ellers farm tries to come between Laurey and Curly. Ditzy and flirtatious Ado Annie (Lucy May Barker) is also struggling to choose between Will (Simon Anthony), a cowboy who has fallen in love with her, and Ali Hakim (Gary Wilmont), a peddler, who just wants to have fun and doesn't want to settle down.

Robbie Boyle took on the role of Curly and played it so well. Curly is very confident and can be quite sarcastic, I felt that he portrayed both these traits very well. Charlotte Wakefield played Laurey and really played the part well, Laurey is quite innocent and very independent, which is something that Charlotte displayed throughout the whole of the show. Both Robbie and Charlotte were perfectly suited for these leads and both worked extremely well together.

The dance numbers in this show will you leave you in awe, with aspects of ballet and upbeat, boot stomping dancing. This musical was one of my favourites growing up and I still love it even now, this show is a must see and will leave you singing and dancing when leaving the theatre.

Looking Forward To - July

Monday, 6 July 2015

It always feels like an uphill struggle getting to July, like with Christmas, there is so much excitement around at this time, the kids are off school, the weather is marginally better and everyone is just so much more happy. I have a very exciting month ahead of me and there are a few things I am especially looking forward to.

My wedding anniversary. I have been married 2 years this month and to celebrate we are going away for the night and then to Thorpe park the next day, we are so mature. Much like the wedding we are going in a big gang of our friends so it should be a good trip.

Having my bestie back home. I have been friends with Stacey since we were in Primary school, she was the bridesmaid at my wedding and one of my best friends. She is a teacher and lives around an hour away, which isn't that far but when you are both working time consuming jobs getting to see each other becomes quite difficult. We already have our weekly sauna trips planned for as soon as she finishes for the summer holidays.

Fingertrap gigs. My husbands band are playing here, there and everywhere this summer and I have plans to go to quite a few of the bigger festivals and events especially the London dates. It's nice to experience so many different festivals each year and know that you haven't got the hassle of staying in a tent that is going to wash away in the middle of the night.

Family time. We have bought Pugsey a paddling pool for the garden to cool him of in all this warm weather we are having. We've also got plenty of BBQ's planned so it should be a fun packed July and the rest of the summer. I'll just have to schedule in some time to actually go to work now.

What are your plans for the summer? Anything you are really looking forward to in July?

Disney Series - Planning/Useful Apps

Friday, 3 July 2015

I thought I would do another 'Disney Series' post today as I have spent most of the week planning our holiday to Disneyworld Florida.  Today I am going to tell you about an app that I have found very useful when planning this holiday, I honestly don't know what I would do without it now. This app is called 'My Disney Experience'. On the Disneyworld website, once you have booked a Disneyworld holiday, you can create an account and start planning.

As you can see, you can link a character to your account, obviously I chose Elsa, haha. Once you sign in to your account it also tells you how many days you have left until your holiday, which is so exciting. Through your account, you can also make dining reservations in most of the restaurants and secure fastpasses in advance for certain rides, which makes things so much easier, as you are not spending ages queuing for rides or restaurants, when you arrive. On your account you can also set up reminders for fireworks, parades and shows, which is also very handy.

After logging into your account, you can create an itinerary for each day that you are there. You can create a day by day plan of what you want to do and which park you want to visit. When you select a park, you can then add reminders for character meet and greets, displays and parades. When you have made a restaurant reservation or a fastpass reservation, this will also show up in your plans.

You can also download this as an app for your phone, which will come in very useful when you are actually in Disneyworld as you can use it to guide you through each day.

Behind The Scenes Of A Location Photo Shoot

Wednesday, 1 July 2015

I am really lucky that I have a job I love. As lots of you will already know, I am a photographer and I opened my own photography studio last year. Even though I love my studio, one of the best bits is getting to go out on location and shoot without having to work around another job. Yesterday was one of those days and I had an awesome time, so I thought I would share with you what really happens on location.

Before you start anything you have to get your idea straight and focused. A lot of the time this depends on the customer who the shoot is for but on this occasion it was just for me to have a bit of fun so I created a mood board on Pinterest and started looking for models. There are a number of ways I scout for models but Twitter and Facebook are always great for networking as well as sites used exclusively for networking creatives. Once everything is set, I go location hunting. This shoot was unique to the fact that the location was only 5 minutes away from my house. It is a massive perk to living in The Valleys in South Wales. However this bit, I find, can usually take the longest.

Then on to the day of the shoot. I usually work with stylists, hair stylists and makeup artists but as this shoot was a little last minute I drafted in my sister and we did it together along with the models. Another thing you have to work around on location is electricity, for the team to do their work. We used my studio for this shoot as it was so close but usually its pubs nearby or we do as much as we can at someones home and then do the last bits and touch ups at the location.

This shoot also involved a Hawk. 9 times out of 10 it is true what they say about children and animals, never work with them. I work with both quite frequently and you can never tell how something is going to go. On this occasion though, we were expecting the bird to be really difficult, but he was great! Especially with how warm it was and with the smoke bombs and reflectors going, the bird was the easiest part of the shoot.

Directing is a part of photography that I never thought I would be good at, but the more I shoot with people the easier I find it to convey the image in my head to the person I'm shooting. Getting the model to pose exactly how you want them is not always the easiest job and it doesn't happen straight away, once you have placed them, don't be afraid to move them again if it's not quite right.

I love a smoke bomb but it is another thing that is difficult to shoot with, as soon as the wind changes or stops blowing it changes the image dramatically. We were lucky that up on top of the mountain was windy, but it still was quite difficult once the wind changed direction.

When you're out on location it is always good to remember lots of refreshments and to have a break quite frequently, with this shoot there was no shade anywhere so we went back and forth to the cars for breaks as the last thing you want is heat exhaustion.

The first image on the post is one of the final images, there are loads more from this shoot that I love! You can see all of the final images and more on my Facebook page. I quite like doing photography posts so if you have any questions or any posts you would like me to do feel free to let me know in the comments.
