Movie Monday - Big Hero 6

Monday, 30 March 2015

Let me just start this post by saying, this film was AWESOME! It was laugh out loud funny, and completely heart warming. I think Disney have definitely upped their game with the release of this and Wreak It Ralph over the past few years.

The story centres around teen Hiro, who is crazy intelligent and designs technology. After a terrible event devastates his life, Hiro finds an unlikely friend and partner in Baymax, his brothers robot. Baymax is one of the coolest Disney characters and is so loveable I feel like he could become a classic character that will still be selling in Disney Stores in years to come.

This really is a film that adults and children will both love and I am really hoping there will be a sequel!

Lush Twilight Bath Bomb

Sunday, 29 March 2015

I think I have a new favourite bath bomb! Twilight smells amazing, feels even better on your skin and also leaves you looking like you've just stepped out of Twilight with a slight shimmer when you step into the light.

I have quite a bit of trouble sleeping so this seemed perfect for me as it was packed with lavender and ylang ylang. When I dropped the bomb into the water, the colour looked really cool and the more it dissolved the more it looked like the night sky.

The bubbles lasted for ages and the scent stayed around for just as long. This is definitely a firm favourite for me!

What are your Lush favourites at the moment?

The Super Market Burger Taste Test with The Super Burger Bros

Thursday, 26 March 2015

Yesterday I was invited to a burger tasting with The Super Burger Bros and it was definitely a blogger event I could get used too. As we arrived the chef for The Urban Tap House was loading up the burgers to take them through to the kitchen, I was handed my score card and was introduced to the other bloggers.

Then it was on to the tasting. There were 8 burgers in total all from super markets and all the standard burger, no fancy stuff. They were all cooked on the same grill, to the same temperature and there was no extra seasoning involved. They were all then put on to numbered plates so we didn't know where they were from.

At first I thought tasting 8 burgers would be quite easy, I was so wrong. By the last one I could just about manage a bite let alone finish my whole half. But, for the sake of humanity, we had to find out which burger was the best, so I ploughed on through!

We then scored the burgers from 1 through to 8 and tallied the scores to find out which burger came out on top. What was really surprising was that most of us had scored the burgers completely differently, which goes to show that there is no perfect burger. But some of them were actually terrible and nearly all of us agreed which one.

The burger I ranked number 1 wasn't actually the overall winner of the evening but I can tell you it was from Tesco. If you want to find out which brand won, head over to The Super Burger Bros and check out their blog.

I had such an awesome evening and I'm hoping that there will be more burger events in the pipeline because no matter how much I love beauty events, food will always win for me!

Movie Monday - Whiplash - Review

Monday, 23 March 2015

A promising young drummer enrolls at a cut-throat music conservatory where his dreams of greatness are mentored by an instructor who will stop at nothing to realize a student's potential. - IMDb

I had seen this film pop up here and there for the last few months but didn't actually know an awful lot about the plot. I used to play percussion and kit so just knowing it was about music and drums was enough to get me intrigued.

Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons both play great parts, the latter being someone you really want to hate. Teller really gets the audience behind him, drawing you in with his passion and determination to make his character's dream become a reality.

I really enjoyed the film but I don't know if it would be everyone's cup of tea. I feel like it would be a love it or hate it kind of deal, but I was definitely on the love it side.

Have you seen Whiplash? Do you have any recommendations for next weeks Movie Monday?

Afternoon Tea in the Angel Hotel, Cardiff

Sunday, 22 March 2015

It was my Mother's birthday last weekend so me and my sister decided to treat her to some afternoon tea. Not realising that everywhere would be booked up as her birthday fell on the same weekend as Mother's Day, we left it too late and had to go this weekend instead. We also invited my Nan along as we thought it would be a nice to all have an afternoon together being fed cakes.

When we arrived at the Angel Hotel we were shown to our table, and given a pot of tea and coffee. We had a lovely window seat so we were able to watch the world go by and see the castle. They then brought us out our sandwiches, cakes and scones which were lovely. The scones were definitely the best bit as they were still warm. I really liked the lemon tart and salmon and cucumber sandwiches too.

Then to finish us all off we had a glass of prossecco, which after a quick 'cheers' and a sip I had to give up as I was designated driver for the day. All in all it was a lovely afternoon with great company and is definitely something I would do again, maybe somewhere different next time though.

What has everyone else been up to this weekend?

Lush Secret Garden Bath Bomb - Review

Saturday, 14 March 2015

I was given the Secret Garden Bath Bomb as part of the goody bag at the Mothers Day and Easter Blogger Event in Lush Cardiff. It looked great, the colours are vibrant and the smell is quite floral. I don't really use bath bombs that often so I was looking forward to having a change in routine.

When I first put the bath bomb in I was quite shocked by the colour of the water. It instantly turned a very dark green colour and looked really murky. That soon changed though and as it started to create more bubbles the water changed to a nice bright green.

The scent isn't something I would usually choose as I prefer fruitier smells but again, it was a lovely change. The only downside, I would say, is the bits of flowers that were floating around the bath. They eventually either got stuck to me or just made a mess in the bath after the water drained which I wasn't a massive fan of.

What are your favourites from Lush's Mother's Day and Easter launch?

Taking Pugsey To The Beach

Sunday, 8 March 2015

Spring is nearly upon us, and for a couple of days this weekend we actually had some sun. I had to work, as usual, but I closed up the shop as soon as I could to enjoy what sun was left. Friday we took Pugsey to Penarth for his first trip to the beach. It wasn't amazingly successful as he really didn't like it. It was quite choppy and the waves were crashing really loud so I think it was all just a little too much for him with his sight not being the greatest.

Saturday we decided to try him in Rest bay as there is a much larger area to walk next to the beach without being to close to the sea if it was the same as the day before. Luckily Pugsey really enjoyed himself in Porthcawl and it was hard work trying to get him back off the beach. I also managed to get a few photos!

Mexican Fajita Night In

Friday, 6 March 2015

Wednesday Night myself, Nick, Savannah and Shane were all miraculously free. Even though Savannah and I write this blog together and I don't think we go a day without speaking to each other, we don't get to meet up and all see each other half as much as we used to. So Wednesday we decided to have a fajita night in.

As neither Savannah or Nick can be trusted to even boil an egg, me and Shane took over cooking duties. first of all we fried an onion and a load of peppers together while we sorted the chicken. We decided to have two different flavours of chicken, one barbecue and one spicy, because me and Savannah are really fussy and don't like the same foods.

We also had salsa and I had a little bit of mayo in mine too and a massive bowl of wedges to share. They don't look a lot in this image but I was so stuffed by the end we just lay down on the settee for the rest of the night, planning blog stuff and having cuddles with Pugsey while the boys played Xbox.

Do you like Mexican? What should our next foodie night in theme be?

Lush Cardiff Easter and Mothers Day Blogger Event

Thursday, 5 March 2015

On Monday, myself and Abi were invited to the Lush Easter and Mothers Day blogger event.  I had seen some of their products online and was very excited as it all looked so cute. There were a few things on my wishlist that I wanted to pick up. As soon as we arrived, the lovely Lauren from Lush greeted us and made us feel very welcome. We were offered glasses of lemonade with strawberries and blueberries, mini chocolate easter eggs and chocolate rice krispie cakes, which was lovely. Lauren then guided us around the store and showed us the new range and what each product included.  She was extremely friendly and helpful and asked us what our favourite products were and helped us to find alternatives to these. We were then handed a piece of paper with pictures of all the new products, we had to walk around the store and find out the names of the products and write them down next to the pictures, this was such a good idea as it gave us like a mini catalogue of products that we could take home with us.

My favourite products from the Mother's Day range were definitely Mother Superior and Bubblegrub. Mother superior is a lovely bubble bar that has been designed to resemble a nun, how cute?! This also smells amazing, very similar to the Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub. The Bubblegrub is also a bubble bar, which is in the shape of a little bug, I can't really put my finger on what this smelled like, but it was amazing. The Easter collection was definitely my favourite, the products were all extremely bright and colourful. My favourite from this range was Hoppity Poppity, Fluffy Egg and Bunch of Carrots. Hoppity Poppity is a bath ballistic in the shape of a rabbit, the smell of this product is extremely fresh and also contained popping candy. I actually picked this up and can't wait to try it. The next product I loved was Fluffy egg, this is a bright pink bath bomb in the shape of an easter egg, this was my favourite product as it smells exactly like Snow Fairy, which I love, I also picked this up as I am obsessed with Snow Fairy. Finally the last product I loved was Bunch of Carrots, this was a reusable bubble bar, each of these contained three bubble bars in the shape of carrots, which really, could give a total of six baths, how amazing?! The scent of this seemed very clean and fresh, I'm quite gutted now that I didn't pick it up.

At the end of the event we were handed goody bags which contained the Secret Garden Bath Bomb, Golden Egg Bath Bomb and Yummy Mummy Shower Gel, I can't wait to try all of these products.

What was your favourite Easter and Mother's Day products?

50 Shades of Grey - Movie Review

Monday, 2 March 2015

So last week I decided to go to the cinemas to see 'Fifty Shades of Grey', I hold my hands up and say i'm guilty for falling into the hype of this book/film. As soon as everyone started raving about the book, I knew I needed to read it. I really enjoyed the book and knew I wanted to see the film. The film was almost identical to the book, from what I can remember and I really enjoyed it.

If you weren't familiar with the storyline of this movie/book, it follows the storyline of a literature student known as Anastasia Steele, she attends an interview with a very wealthy and intimidating man called Christian Grey.  Anastasia falls for Christian and finds herself wanting him, Christian also admits that he wants her too but on his own terms.

If you wasn't aware this book/film is an erotic romance novel, so as you can guess, in some parts can be quite explicit, however I feel that the director handled these scenes very tastefully and didn't make them too awkward to watch.

Both Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, play the leads and I feel that they were suited perfectly as Dakota looks very innocent and naive, and was perfect at being sarcastic, whereas Jamie already has a very mysterious look about him, he is also obviously very handsome. I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed this film, even though it's had it's criticisms, I can't wait for the next film.
